It is because of the negative stigma attached to less harmful but still illegal drugs. It all boils down to ignorance and misinformation. The stigma to marijuana is beginning to fade slowly though. The more states that legalize and dicriminalize it the more it will slowly change the mainstream attitude towards it.
Some people are just retarded and think if it is illegal it must be bad and anyone who uses illegal drugs are also bad. People always forget that alcohol was once completely illegal in the United States. And because alcohol was made illegal during that time organized crime skyrocketed. Prohibition did nothing but give money and power to criminals who were willing to bootleg it. Maybe someday we will all wake the fuck up and realize it is wrong to tell people what they can or cannot out in their own bodies.
Because the nearest place you can buy it is a 30-40-or 120 minute drive, and you got it right here for an extra $5 or $10. And because a disproportionate amount of people are on disability/SSI and buy alcohol on credit because they know that check is coming on the 3rd.
Idiots who don't consider alcohol a drug, then judge other drug users.

Yep. And people are still bootlegging these days in dry counties. I live in an area that's mostly dry and bootlegging is big business.

Why would people bootleg alcohol if it's not illegal?
