  • How do you work that out about other people's fathers being worse? He didn't say it was his car, maybe it was his father's or someone else's and being old enough to drive (which he didn't actually say he was!) doesn't mean he's an adult in some parts of the world.

Oh, and "get a job" is that easy everywhere is it?

You need to do what your own name suggests

    • Do you not know the world you live in? There are many instances of fathers torturing their children within an inch of death, and keeping them locked up, etc.
Even if he doesn't own a car, he must own some sort of driving license. That makes him 18 or even 21 in MOST parts of the world. Youngest I've heard is 17, which is still a young adult in many people's eyes.
Furthermore, 16 year olds can get a job, even 15 where I live. And no, getting a job isn't rocket science if you're willing to accept anything.

      • You have no idea of the effect on victims of family violence, it's not only children but adults (usually women) who often find it almost impossible to extricate themselves from abusive situations.

I know the world I live in very well and have worked in the family violence field since the 70's and you don't know what you're talking about.

Re your first paragraph, yeah I do know that, of course everyone knows that, but there are psychological ways of intimidating and terrorising people also and that's what I think OP is experiencing, which needs empathy and support, not quick fix solutions.
