Being insane isn't romantic or liberating, it's a prison, both mentally and physically.
First of all you won't be able to escape the bondage of your mind, it will be a lonely, depressing torture. It's nothing like being an evil villain in the movies.
If you want to experience it walk into a hospital and tell them you are suicidal. You'll be placed in a cement room with a camera in the corner for at least 24 hours. Make sure to tell them you have a plan and intend to follow through.
During your stay if you resist them at all, or back talk, you'll be strapped down and given a sedative, the first of many mind altering drugs that will be coming over the next few days.
You won't be able to eat or shit without permission.
After 24 hrs, if you're lucky, you will be given a room, interviewed and placed on meds that will turn your brain into a clouded mush, and strip any emotion you have from you. Basically you'll be a zombie.
Until you can prove you aren't a nutjob through this hazy, drug addled stupor you are now in, you'll be held. You'll be told what to do at all hours of the day and night. You'llbe treated as sub human. You'll believe you are insane when the doctors talk to you in riddles, while feeding you more drugs.
It's a complete utter nightmare.
Try this out, let us know if you still want to be insane. Because if you really do go insane, it will be your permanent life, again, if you're lucky. Most likely you'll be tossed in the street and left to fend for yourself.
I used suicide as a way for this person to experience it and because I have first hand knowledge of how someone was treated in that situation. I realize there are many forms but they are all mental prisons.

You realise immediately suicidal is just one type of "insane"? OP sounds like they wanna have ASPD.
