I weigh what?

I don't own a scale. (If you must know why I used to weigh myself like a million times a day).So everytime I visit my mom/dad/even friend I weigh myself. I'm pretty good at guessing peoples weights but not when it comes to my own. I look at my body and how I look just doesn't make sense with my actuall weight. I know some people just "wear it well" but the closest I've guessed was 20pounds higher and I've assumed up to 60pounds higher then I turned out to be. I just don't understand how I can be that light when I look the way I do. I'm about the same size as my close friend, and she weighs 43pounds more then me. I haven't weighed myself in six months but im sure I've gained between twenty and thirty. is it normal to be so wrong about ones own size? ..also is it weird that I HAVE to weigh myself anytime I see a scale? even if I see one on a shelf at a store.

Is It Normal?

  • I used to weigh myself more than everyday too until our scales batteries ran out lol.

  • you probably have more muscle mass than your friend

  • I meant muscle weighs "more" than fat, not "for" than fat. My apologies.

  • Muscle weighs for than fat and perhaps that's why you're the same size as your friend but she weighs more. I'm certainly not calling you fat so no offense. I'm just offering a suggestion as to why you might weigh less and be the same size.

  • Congrats on throwing away your own scale, though. That's a good first step :)

  • Sounds like some sort of disorder, possibly body dysmorphic disorder (the fact that your view of yourself is so skewed). Also, you are NOT the same size as your friend if she is 43 lbs heavier. Please look into counseling of some sort to gain a healthy body image.

  • I weigh myself when I'm somewhere that has a scale. I don't own one, so I'm curious. I figure that's pretty normal.

What's not normal is the rest of your story. What you're describing sounds a lot like body-dysmorphia. If you're comfortable with the way you look, and it's just the numbers that are bothering you, quit weighing yourself. If you're conserved about the numbers and insecure about how you look, I suggest seeing a family doctor. They can help identify what a normal healthy weight should be based on your height and genetic background. (I come from a plump family going back generations on both sides, being super-skinny would indicate something us wrong in my case) Your doctor can also recommend, or put you in touch with someone who can help you learn to eat, and exercise in a healthy way.

  • Distorted body image--your perception of yourself isn't even close to how you really are, if you were guessing that much higher than your real weight.
Believe the scale, not your brain, but don't pay too much attention to it. Work on improving the way that you feel.

  • Sometimes, when people have low self esteem, they can have a warped view of themselves. You should accept your weight because the scales don't lie! Try not to worry too much ( I know that is easier said than done). I am sure you are at a healthy and attractive weight for your hight :D Take care!

  • It's this society. People, incl me, have become obsessed with it. I'd say it is normal now a days although some might call it OCD.

  • It's normal, especially nowadays with so many people going to the gym, weighing yourself is like taking a shower, some do it more than once a day.

  • I am exactly the same way with likeeverything you said
