I was scolded for littering in a store

When you walk out, they take your receipt to check what you've purchased, then hand it back to you with a brochure of their sales. I don't like being forced to take junk mail so I just drop it immediately. One of the regular employees finally spoke up about it telling me I shouldn't litter in their store and that they wouldn't let me in anymore. But I feel like they were littering in my hand.

Pretty childish. Next time just pluck only the receipt from their hand saying you don't need the brochure.

    • They tuck the receipt into the brochure. It's not easy to pluck and the line is moving so there's no time for any conversation. Also they don't expect anyone to decline the brochure so you waste more time while they mentally process your request and separate the receipt from the brochure.

  • A simple “I’m all set” and walking off will do the trick without the unneeded scene.

    Don't litter.
    Period.
    your mom doesn't work there.
You're a melodramatic fool for making an issue of it.
That receipt is proof of purchase.
You are guaranteed not to be accused of shoplifting.
Drop it in a waste bin on your exit.
    How difficult was it?
    Not any.
Do think others should just live to clean up after you?

You know you can just tell the cashier you don't need the receipt and walk away right?! You don't need to stand there like a muppet, get all of the adverty stuff and then chuck it on the floor.

Just say "I'm good, Bye" and walk away. Seems like a very trivial and boring thing to post about. But hey, it beats the "I'm not gay, but..." posts...

I personally think they overreacted. I don't like when it feels like someone is forcing a brochure or pamphlet on me either. I'm not mad at OP for littering, because I don't think it would kill the employees to pick up a dropped brochure. However, it might have been kinda cool for OP to just throw it in the trash right in front of the person who gave it to you.

They are right. Don't be a figging slob. If you don't want their junk just give it back and tell them you don't want it. Someone else has to pick up after your lame ass.

You knew what you were doing, just say no next time you absolute manchild.

Yeah, like you didn't know this was going to happen sooner or later. That's why you did it, isn't it?

So now you've made your little drama-queen point about something truly trivial, they've done what you knew they would, and you can come here and whine about how unfair the world is. Well done.

The employees in the store are there to provide customer service to you when you are purchasing goods, or services, depending on the store. They probably get paid minimum wage and the last thing they want to do is pick this crap up because you are making a statement.

Do you throw unwanted mail on the ground when the postman delivers it? I'm guessing not.

Stop being a DB, and either accept it or politely decline it and move along.
