If I was in your situation I would go. I mean what do you have to loose? Not only that, but the incident was 20 years ago and from what I read I take it as you are an old man.Like a man who is in his 70's or older. So, even if these people were still looking for you, I'm sure they wouldn't recognize you. Time can really change a way a person looks quite a lot so it would make it hard for them to identify you.
