don't listen to these idiots blabbering on about "weed is god's gift to earth." they are probably inexperienced high school kids. my opinion is if you want to get high, go for it. it's not that big of a deal. however, I would say its very important to make sure you are comfortable with yourself, because weed can easily turn from a recreational drug into a crutch. and this is coming from someone who has smoked weed every single day for the past 3 or 4 years. i have a lot of problems with motivation and school work, but I have had these problems since middle school. bottom line: is it ok to smoke pot once in awhile? sure, if you are careful about the law. just make sure you don't make it a habit like me, because it is easy to hide from your problems behind weed.
