I want to film my neighbor's backyard because of their rock throwing kid

We've had a lot of damage done from rocks being thrown and the police say we have no evidence. So I am thinking of setting up a camera to film their backyard could I get in legal trouble myself

Most surveillance equipment overlook other properties. So long as you are not zoomed in on a bedroom window, you should be good. You maybe able to get away with a dummy camera as well. The mere fact that he may know you are now watching could be enough of a deterrent.

  • Pick up the rocks, take them to the kid’s house and hurl them at his parents until they promise to pay for all of the damage.

I 100% get your point. But everyone could be from different countries/states here so maybe double check?

Take the parents to court when you get evidence. If the kid is old enough get the parents to force their kid to pay for it.

Normal to want to do it, but maybe not illegal. Why not ask the police you've already spoken to if it's legal?

I think this is legal as long as you're covering mostly your own garden, but you'd need to check. Our neighbours back in the UK had a security cam fitted that caught a bit of our back garden. I didn't investigate whether or not it was legal because we were friends and I liked the free security, but they had a proper legit company fit everything and they knew it caught our garden and seemed to think that it was fine.
