I want a job where i have no idea what i'm doing

I want to be a small cog in a huge corporation where I don't even know how my work relates to the product or service the company provides. I want to have a really obscure job title and spend an hour at parties unsuccessfully explaining what I do. Anyone know any jobs like this?

I believe the job title is: I’m fucking clueless.

How do you apply for that?

A job in local government, say a middle management position in HR could be the way forward in your quest for insignificance & evenings of attending pointless, life force sapping parties.

This. The American dmv, tax/tag, social security, and a plethora of other agencies apparently don't just allow such an appathetic work ethic, but actually encourage it based on the apparent efficiency, or lack there of.

If it is any comfort the government agencies in the UK seem to encourage exactly the same traits & work practices in their staff as well.

Lol, well at least your government employees get parties to celebrate their terrible work ethic on tax payer dollars. We Americans have goals to strive for.

I had a similar job, before I became a car salesman.
I worked at a transport company in IT, but my official job title was: "Azubileistungsmanager", German for intern performance manager. Basically I got to tell interns what to do and if they did well, I'd get all the glory. If they did poorly, I write a report and the interns get scolded, or get fired. It was a boring and useless job. I also got to do random minor IT stuff.

      You're German?

Idk why, I always thought you were Irish.

Actually I'm neither. I'm Bulgarian, living and working in Germany for now.
But thanks for the compliment. I never pass on an opportunity to drink good whiskey.

Hah. I have no idea where I got that from, then.

Thanks for not being offended :)

Lol lol lol!!!! This is my brother's job. He is in a cushy tech job where he does nothing technical himself, yet nets about 100k/yr. He talks obscure jargon, has a clever nonsensical job title, delegates/supervises/signs off on projects, and that's it. He attends a lot of tech conventions schmoozing. His resume makes no sense, but it is effective.

With little experience I worked as creative director of a media firm that really didn't require much from me except keeping everything organized, on time, and under budget.

  • You need to go into management, I've had quite a few jobs where the managers don't have a clue what's going on.

  • I think it's unrealistic. Most likely it won't happen.

I think under the right circumstances that it will happen slowly and insidiously. This will be so much so that OP won't realize what has come to pass until it's too late, and that is how such things happen.
