It is a basic animal instinct. Females of all species often have an attraction to males that can protect them, protect their offspring that sort of thing. It's also a good sign that they will be good hunters etc. From the fact you mention having 2 shoes in your post I am guessing you are human, so in your case I think it is quite normal.
