Another example: 'watching horror movies makes me get nightmares', the first three words (watching horror movies) can be replaced by 'it' and not 'them', therefore IT is correct.
If you still don't understand ask somebody else to explain it to you, but don't go correcting people wrongly please.
WRONG: "I wanna watch horror movies even though I get nightmares of DOING it"
CORRECTED: "I want to watch horror movies even though THEY give me nightmares."
OR: 'I want to watch horror movies even though I get nightmares FROM doing it.'
I'm guessing your native language might be Italian since your word 'di' treats 'of' and 'from' as the same thing, that's not how it works in English.
