I wanna get way from my parents and relatives!! is that normal?

is it normal that i want to get away from my parents and relatives as soon as possible? I mean, I love them, really... But I just can't stand living with them... And I hate my hometown too.

Right now I'm studying abroad, and I don't really miss home, seriously. In fact, I'm kind of paranoid about going back to them after I graduate. Right now, all I'm thinking about is just marrying my boyfriend and live somewhere far far away from anybody, and definitely not in my hometown. I FREAKIN HATE THAT PLACE. And my parents want to build me a house there... right next to their house!!! Aggh I wanna run awaaayyy.....!

Is It Normal?

  • Completely normal. I'm the same way about my parents and siblings. I'll visit them once a year and I'll want to leave after a month. I think we love each other more when they miss me. We have regular conversations on Skype.

  • Who doesn't? Christmas and Thanksgiving were invented to force us to spend time with our families. Sometimes it's the only time we'll see each other otherwise.

  • I’d say it’s fairly normal, although your negative feelings towards your family do sound a little extreme. Unless they’ve done something horrible to you, then maybe try to figure out why you can’t stand living around them. Buying a house is a big decision, so don’t let your parents pressure you into living right next to them. Find a place where you’re comfortable, and just visit your family when you feel like it. Some people want to live close to family, and others need some space. But you should do what feels right for you, even if your parents disagree. Good luck.

    • This is very normal, I am 46 and have lived out of state away from family all my life and like it that way. Some people are loners by choice and not choice mine started not by choice but Dysfunction. But I liked being away from them. You can always go home and visit when you want. I found living a state away was perfect. Good Luck. :)
