Well, sometimes it's absolutely necessary to give a cat, or any animal a bath. I give my cat a bath when he needs it, and it not really a big deal for me. Some people send their cats to a groomer rather than bathe their cats themselves.
My cat doesn't really scratch, or bite a lot, but to be completely honest it doesn't really bother me. Everyone has different experiences, and feelings about this sort of thing.
Some people are dog people, some are cat people, and some are non-animal people. To be honest I tend to not be able to understand non-animal people on a deep level, because animals are a big thing for me. It's like something I'll probably never be able to understand, or relate to the person about at all.
... and some people are just straight up animal people. I would say that I'm both a dog, and cat person. I'm pretty much an animal person all around.
I'm a non-animal person because animals tend to shit, stinking up your house. There's no way I'll be owning a dog any time soon. Even the posh dogs, you feed them and the food comes out, it gets disgusting and you regard it as filthy.
Nope, my cat is trained to use a litterbox, and most people housebreak their dogs. It's fine if you never want to own a dog, or any other animal for that matter. However, most animal people will never understand your point of view.
I have a dear friend who is a non-animal person, and she couldn't understand why a guy that she had dated didn't want to put his cat up when she came to visit. I explained things to her, and she still didn't want to believe what I told her, and just thought the guy was awful. I personally maintain that she, and this guy are completely incompatible with one another.
There are plenty of people who have trained pets, and homes that don't stink.
I've noticed families very often have a dog

I wouldn't, cats don't like getting wet.

Why is this such an issue right now?

I don't like having to clean the litter or even clean the cage.
