I've become disgusted by meat, iin?

Suddenly I just can't eat meat anymore. I'm disgusted by it on many levels. Chicken too. Seafood I'm still able to enjoy and seem okay as long as I'm not the one preparing it. Am I becoming a vegetarian? I don't know what this actually means.

Alright, so this is an interesting one...
On one hand, you could say it’s not normal on the basis that we are omnivores. That means we include vegetables AND meat, amongst others, to form a healthy diet with all the required nutrients and vitamins.

On the other, you could say that it is perfectly normal, because if you’ve ever been in a slaughter house or seen what horrific things go in there, it would turn fucking Hulk Hogan into a vegetarian. The treatment of animals raised for food is absolutely despicable, so there’s that too...

I’m split, so I gave no vote. Each point is something to consider...

If you guys saw how pigs and other animals are slauughtered here you'd be horrified. For hens we just cut their necks. For pigs we stab them in the heart and for cows they are tied to trees and their necks are cut. I think that I'm used to it.

Yes, I know that this may be shocking to you westerners.

I used to eat organic chicken but I moved to another city and I haven't found another producer yet so I am taking my chances on the market.

Not normal, the OP didn't even say what caused them to suddenly be disgusted. How did you go this long without understanding what meat was?

As an aside, I don't get the disconnect with fish. Do fish not count as alive? Is it because they don't have legs or facial expressions? Why is it okay to kill fish but nothing else?

I recall my mother being disgusted by meat for an entire year due to buying a bag of frozen chicken that went bad. Strange thing is the expiration date said it wasn't set to expire till next year. Did something like that happen to you?

Meat factories tend to cut corners (as any big production company does) to save on money. You were probably one of the unfortunate consumers who picked up a faulty batch of produce that went unnoticed.

Either that or you left it out on the bench to thaw for too long, after which the dormant bacteria in the meat starts the decomposition process. Not a nice thing to think about, but possible...

I had a vegetarian friend in college who told me that meat tasted dead to hear, but she was also bipolar so I dunno.

What do you mean that you are disgusted by it? Do you not like the taste anymore? Is it the way it's cooked? Moral reasons?

    • I'd think moral because I feel really bad about eating what was once a living animal who died for me to eat it. It has been weird, I have never thought much about it but when I get the raw meat I imagine the animal and the cut it came from.

Normal: when I lived on a farm where we had our own animals killed to eat I stopped eating meat because I could see it as the living animal I had once been.

Once I moved away from there I gradually began eating meat again occasionally and still do, but I could live without it if necessary.

I once overheard a bear and a wolf having the same discussion.
