I imagine it would be considerably different if you saw these things in person.
Unlike many in the film industry, I believe violence on film should be every bit as graphic as in real life, as a deterrent to violence in real life. Watching the victim of a violent crime on film without the gore, agony and mess creates exactly what you are feeling.
This stuff is a great deal more gruesome in real life.
