I think the allies should have taken france during ww2

Maybe I'm a heartless person but I feel that the smart thing for the allies to do in WW2 was take control of France and keep it. After Hitler conquered France and then we conquered Hitler why did we just give France back? I think the Americans should have taken France and Italy and allowed the soviets to have the eastern countries. Why not? It would benefit America to do this. America could have swallowed half of Europe this way. We would have complete control of the world. We would never have to worry about losing another war

    If anything it would be the British, the Americans didn't do anything until the end.

      You're right but the British were almost wiped out. They weren't in a good position at all after the war. The Americans were way better off at that time and could have easily wiped out England at that time, although it would never have come to that! England was on its way to being defeated before America joined the war. So after the war if it came down to militaries flexing at eachother England would have likely allowed America to take control of France, because England's military was not in good shape, and they were just happy to keep their sovereignty.

      I've always thought it would have been a good idea for America to do it, and if America didnt do it Canada should have.

        Yeah you have a point about the Americans being stronger, so they could have taken it over by force. But the French wouldn't want to be ruled any more by the Americans than they liked being ruled by the Germans, and there would always be resistance fighters and no peace.

      They had a lot of coal back then and now discovered they have tons of uranium and natural gas. They would be tax payers too ya know. Its a great place to keep our military and its a very rich country.

    Why keep France? They have no resources. Basically it would be taking on a population of nanny state losers. Who needs added debt.

      They had great military equipment. They were the most advanced militaries on earth before the war. They were simply out smarted by Hitler and conquered. It would be a great place to keep soldiers at just in case. I think they should have kept Germany too.

          Ive heard that before too. They had a great military though. No one thought Hitler would get France but he was very smart.

          Look at some of the specs of the french military i pulled up. Its far superior to the german military at that time. Their navy was beast.
          5,000,000 men, 99 divisions, 4,200 tanks, about 11,000 guns
          2,916 planes (1,114 fighters, 1,002 bombers)
          7 capital ships, 1 aircraft carrier, 19 cruisers, 70 destroyers, 75 submarines

              It was good equipment tho especially their navy. They were defeated because they put all their defenses in one area because they believed the nazis couldnt get their tanks through the mountains. But the nazis easily went through thw mountains and out flanked them.
