I think that i am addicted to sleeping medicine

its what it says on the title, is it normal? I get massive headaches and feel very dizzy if I go a day or two without some in my system. currently I am trying to break this habit but I cant take it anymore.

It’s cool you can acknowledge you have a problem. But changing is going to be rough.

I agree I didn't even think it was a issue until I went a few days without it and I just got more and more sick until I took some feel asleep woke up and felt better. and even then I didn't think it was an issue.

I just signed on to give you a comment because you're secretly...like, one of my favorite iin people.

Sleeping pill addiction is a beast...& sort of an unrecognized addiction. & I've been there. I used to be a raging stimulant addict, so I definitely got in the cycle of abusing sleeping pills during come down. Mostly dyphenhydramine & doxylamine was my jam...now they have z-quil omg. I used to just chug nyquil (poor liver)!

So obviously, you need to kick it, but it can be extremely difficult because it's tied to something your body needs to do. The first few weeks is awful, but you need to be mindful of the fact that you are basically self medicating some issues that you have in your life. Sleep provides a sense of comfort & a way to check out of the world. Ideally, if you can address whatever it is about your life that makes you feel the need turn your brain off, it might help you avoid popping pills to enter another planet.

So...to handle your immediate withdrawal. Just remember it's temporary. It's gonna suck. You absolutely won't be able to sleep for a few days. Avoid caffeine. Try & exercise...just long walks of you can't do more. Being physically tired will help you sleep. Try melatonin (TEMPORARILY). get yourself a really good book because you will absolutely be up all night. There's a reddit page for people who abuse benadryl. Read it if you feel tempted...it is absolutely next level, existential crisis material...people going absolutely insane with demetia from abusing sleeping pills...like, holy fuckballs.

Anyways, I fucking adore you, blind inquisitor. I know you might not have access to a therapist or whatever because I know you struggled with homelessness & shit, but if you can see someone, you totally should. Either way, I do believe you can kick this. It's gonna suck ass, but it's do-able.

I used to have to take ambien, but I wasn't ever addicted to it. I just kinda stopped taking ambien, because I didn't like the way it made me feel like I d ou didn't really dream. Sleeping without dreaming just leaves me feeling awful.

What did they say about the experience? I have heard about people supposedly sleep walking, and sleep eating while on Ambien.

Did these people take Ambien for insomnia, or were they taking it recreationally for some reason?

Cold turkey, son. Withdrawal is a bitch but sometimes it must be done when one abuses a substance. Or just ween off of it. That may be safer.

You might have to wean yourself off of them, sounds like you're going into withdrawal whenever you stop taking them. Don't quit cold turkey, you'll fuck yourself up even worse.

That's not an easy one to fix. I would seek professional help immediately. That's not something you want to be addicted to. Sleep alone let the side effects you mentioned
