  • It's normal to be concerned about people you care about. To imagine they're dead after being gone half a day, especially if you know they planned to be gone that long, is an over reaction. If you're feeling sadness or anxiety, or an inability to concentrate because of this, those would be signs that it had become a problem for you, and that you should seek professional help. If it's just a thought that flits through your mind, that's pretty normal.

My partner has a diagnosed anxiety disorder, she gets very concerned if she doesn't hear from me by 11 pm, or after about 6 hours, unless I've let her know in advance what I'm doing and when I will call. Part of it is based on some bad past experiences, part is just anxiety. I don't worry like that at all. I'm more likely to assume they got stuck in traffic, wanted to stuck around and talk, or worst case scenario they got a flat or something and are unfortunately having a really crappy time. I just give them a call if they're unreasonably late considering the situation. If I can't reach them I try again later. I figure chances are things will be fine.
