  • If any group is in charge all other groups can't be empowered.

    • Kind of like how men are in charge now?

      • In the western world men and women basically have equal opportunities now

        • Not true or women wouldn't still be earning far less than men for the same work, just to give one example.

Things are certainly better than they used to be for women (I'm old so I know what I'm talking about) but opportunities are definitely not yet equal.

          • Some sources say the wage gap took general statistics of what women earned, then compared them to what men earned.

Then they said women earn 78% of what men do, but without actually comparing for the exact same jobs.

Logically, the gender wage gap doesn't make sense.

It would imply that corporations are so misogynistic, and love men so much more, that they would pay men more than women for the same thing.

In reality, if these greedy ass corporations could get away with paying women less for so long, for something they could do just as well as men, then companies would have a huge preference for hiring women over men.

            • It's sooooooooooo easy to work in the factors as well. Men work more hours, men do more dangerous jobs, men choose careers in areas that provide more money. Really simple stuff.

            • I'm relying on statistics which state that women earn up to 46% less than men, depending on the occupation. It's a fact that female dominated jobs are almost invariably paid low wages: for example, childcare, housecleaning, primary school teaching.

One of the arguments for equal pay made by some unions in this country was that wages generally couldn't rise while employers had a pool of cheap labour in the form of women. The same argument has been made in relation to non-white employees.

Re yr last paragraph, it's a fact that very many employers and others (including some women, especially the few women in powerful positions) believe that most women can't do as good a job as any man.

              • "It's a fact that female dominated jobs are almost invariably paid low wages: for example, childcare, housecleaning, primary school teaching. " Yes I agree, but this has nothing to do with sexism. Women choose careers paths that provide less money. Unless you want to force them to choose careers they don't want to do then there's nothing you can do.

            • Ye man. It staggers me that this myth is still perpetuated. I think people just enjoy fighting "oppression", whether it's real or not doesn't matter. It's been illegal for well over half a century.
