Sometimes. I know a lot of people who don't try at school and don't give two shits about their grades. It isn't because they don't think it's important, or because they're just lazy, it's because they're scared of failing, and if you don't try, you have that as an excuse for failing. If you try and fail, you have to except that you're not as good as you thought you were.
Point being, it makes sense (at least to me) that laziness comes from fear of failing and a low self-esteem. Other times, I don't like doing work around the house because it's mind-numbing and I have more entertaining and more useful things to do with my life. I'm not scared that I'll fail at working! So it works both ways.
