I think infant circumcision is wrong

I hate the fact that it's legal for parents to circumcize their infant sons. It's completely fucking absurd! We're always talking about the individuals right to their own body. I don't see how infant circumcizion is compatible with that idea. Let the kid take that decision when he is old enough to decide!

  • Let the man decide for himself at 18. Do you choose your sons career? Who he marries? Loss of sexual sensation, premature ejaculation, risk of infection, irritation of the glans, etc. Parents shouldn't have this right.

I think the kind of people who would chop bits off their child's genitals because it said to do it in a 2000 year old book are quite possibly the kind of people who would choose their child's career and spouse, yes.

You haven't been around many different types of people, then. I'm in the US and there are lots of families who pressure their children into relationships; and even more families who choose the colleges they go to and careers they start. The wealthier the family, the more involved they are.

          • I mean more like control who they marry and what they do in college. I'm in the USA and while I've seen parents pressure their kids I've never seen them control them in such a way.

Should we wait till the kid is old enough and ask if they want to be aborted as well?

    Comment Hidden ( show )
      -
    • Abortion and circumcision aren't really comparable. To be born and survive, the child has to depend and leech heavily off of his/her parents.

If the parents aren't suited for, or don't want that huge responsibility and burden, there's abortion.

Whether a baby boy is circumcised or not has no real effect on his parents- only him.

There's always adoption for your little leech.

If given the choice most would probably rather be born and circumcised than aborted and uncircumcised.

        • factcheck

A fetus doesn’t get to make that choice because a fetus can’t be put up for adoption. It has to be born first, which requires nine months of leeching off of somebody else’s body. It’s that somebody else that gets to decide.

          Comment Hidden ( show )
        • Yeah, there is adoption, but to grow and be born, the child still has to strain his/her biological mother's body, possibly relationships, and career.

Pregnancy affects the parent's life more than the child's.

Again, abortion has literally nothing to do with circumcision.

No normal situation would require parents to choose between aborting and circumcising their child.

Who ever said it's an either or question of action? It 's a question of value. My point is the absurd notion of a person who is more upset over circumcision than an abortion.

            Comment Hidden ( show )
              -
            • I see. The reason I'm more upset over a circumcision than an abortion, despite how ludicrous that plain phrasing makes it sound, is because there's far more necessity for abortion than circumcision.

Someone brings a boy into the world, they should leave his penis in its natural state, clean it properly, and make sure he knows how to do the same. That's not much to ask.

Let him decide what he wants to be done with his body once he's old enough to make an informed decision.

I'm against circumcision for similar reasons as to why I'm against giving kids tattoos.

Both are permanent, and can have practical and emotional repercussions. There's an analogy for you.

              See ya later, CozmoWank-er.

            • Yep, too many people handle their genitals irresponsibly. Unprepared parents should have used proper contraception, or better yet, abstained from sex.

Abortion isn't a great thing at all, but I still find it to be more defensible than circumcision.

It can and usually does decrease sensation in the penis. And the stat about it being cleaner? The difference in disease rates between snipped and unsnipped is negligible in the developed world.

I used to work with a charity that fought against female genital mutilation in Muslim communities in North Africa. I never met anyone who disagreed with our cause (except for the people doing the mutilating...) And yet here's all these people chopping up their kid's penises and everyone is fine with it? I guess when people do it in a first world country everyone thinks it's fine lol.

All of my sister-in-laws are North African and none are mutilated, nor do they know anyone who is mutilated.

This is mostly an Egyptian practice and done as often to Christians as muslims. Even the irreligious families mutilate their women. The practice dates back to the ancient Egyptians when no Abrahamic religions existed.

It's also very popular in south sudan which is almost an exclusively christian country.

Exactly. It’s a cultural thing and has nothing to do with religion.

Fun fact: infant FGM was legal in the United States until 1996(and nobody was charged for it until 2017, even though it happened thousands of times since then), it was covered by insurance carriers until the 1970’s, and it was considered a standard medical procedure until the 1950’s.

This whole thread is strange to me because of the work I did with that charity. It was considered barbaric and evil by every westerner I spoke to on the subject. I see very little tangible difference in the practices and yet they are received completely differently by Americans. Such is life, I suppose. Different perspectives.

Just depends on the country. My son's paediatrician recommended circumcision for health reasons (reduced risk of utis, STDs and cancer). Even gave me a little pamphlet on the benefits vs drawbacks. I had it done.

Took 5 minutes and he didn't even cry, just whimpered a little with the DPNB (numbing) shot. He was more interested in trying to suck my finger.

Now we're getting to the root of your angst. I'm sorry that happened to you but your bad experience shouldn't ruin things for everyone who enjoys having and seeing/loving beautiful cut penises. After all there are only two requirements to be a male pornstar: having a big dick and having it circumcised.

            Comment Hidden ( show )
              -
            • That's such a lie.

First of all, that's most certainly not a requirement for a pornstar.

Secondly, there is absolutely no excuse to mutilate someone healthy just because you think it's beautiful. I also think it's beautiful to see specific people mutilated, with their limbs cut, such as gypsies who steal all the fucking time. If you try to tell me that we shpuld be mutilated because you want to see that then you should be mutilated yourself by those who'd love to see you that way.

You're inhuman to think this way and you should seriously reconsider your attitude. Those who want to see cut penises must go to men who want to cut their penises, when they are old enough to understand the implications of it.

              Comment Hidden ( show )

The adhesion is removed...and then the foreskin is cut off. You’re missing the entire second half of the procedure, the most important part. That’s like saying there’s no penetration during sexual intercourse, the man just puts a condom on his penis.
