I think i'm in love with my teacher...

Alright, I dropped into a completely different school this September, and since my class was specialised on English we got an English lector from America. He seemed pretty goofy but through this year I got to know him better, and I realised that he's very kind, caring and we have a lot in common, we both like art etc etc. He talked to me a lot because I was the only one in my group who understood what he was saying and I felt really pleased whenever there was something he wanted to share.
Now as summer came I got totally depressed and I kept crying and then I thought I might have fallen for him which is pretty awkward since he's about three times my age. But he's really cute and I find him adorable, with all his stupid goofy facial expressions and weird sounds he can make.
And I thought I just liked him as a friend but what's going on here now? Am I normal?

Is It Normal?

  • It is completely normal.

First of all, as a teacher, he stands out of the bunch of immature teenage boys that wander in high shool. This feels so good to talk to someone who looks at you in the eye (and not your boobs like most of the hormones volcanoes of your class) and girls generally look for more physically/intellectually developped guys (that's why you love the fact that he talks about art and stuff). It's okay to have a crush on your teacher, as long as you don't act on your feelings.

Then, you are probably idealizing him: it's part of a teacher's job to be somewhat close to their students, so they would feel good in his course, but his attitude towards you does probably not mean he has that kind of feelings for you, you should just keep that in mind. And the contrast between a caring nice guy and kids who can't keep their trousers on probably makes him even more desirable.

Don't be sad though, and don't think about those feelings so much, take it casual, and just be cool. If you start acting weird, he's gonna have to put distance between you, and I'm sure you wouldn't like that ;)

  • It's normal because you had great time talking to him and being close to him and when you're apart, like now, you feel sad. In friendship there is no age difference, you should remember that. Head up! not everything is so black or white :)

  • As my situation is a bit diffrent i know how you feel. This past school year i had entered high school. It wasnt easy because i had a few favorite teachers in middle school. Once i went into high school i became the same way with my english teacher, also. Many things do we both have in common. At times i even act like her. I sent her a thank you card during the summer because i wanted to thank her for every thing she had done. Every day i serch the mail to see if i got a responce. So all i can possibly say is that its normal.

    • Yeah, completely the same. There were really friendly teachers at my former schools and i grew to talk to them nicely if i find the teacher funny and talkative. And well, he was so like my former teachers... And I felt happy because he was willing to talk to me. Though, sometimes I'd get sulky because I suspected he only talks to me in order to make my english improve. But he let me know so much about him - he told me about his family, his former life in America, his beliefs, and then I sort of realised he acts too much like me, and that's why I felt at ease when talking to him. After all, my native language skills suck, pretty much. So we sometimes even do stuff like best friends... and whenever i feel random, i attack him with messages on facebook or via mail, and since he's used to my rants sometimes he's even willing to reply. :-)
