I think british people say “brilliant” too much

Ever go to Britain?
They’re all like
-What did you have to eat today?
Me:soup
-BRILLIANT!
How old are you?
Me:25
-ah! That’s brilliant mate!
Brilliant brilliant BRILLIANT!
I find it rather not Brilliant.

      Smashing.

"Brilliant" makes me think of the Inbetweeners.

The most accurate portrayal of British teenage boys I’ve ever seen in media.

I’ve heard British people complain that Americans say “awesome” too much, I wonder if that actually does bother them.

"Neat" grates on my nerves. It seems an American thing I don't think I've ever heard it anywhere else...

I'm one and I don't ever say that. I say stuff like amazing or astounding.

    • Do you notice others saying it?

I have some British co-workers, and at least pre-COVID, took annual business trips over there. Yes, they say it quite a bit, but it’s roughly equivalent of Americans saying “rad,” “cool,” or “great.” I’m sure the Brits get tired of hearing us say that.

I’m British and haven’t heard the word brilliant on a regular basis since I was in primary school. I’m from the north tho so maybe it’s more of a London thing?

    I'm an American. What a brilliant 0bservation...

You must have an exceptionally brilliant mind to have noticed that, and be concerned about it.
