  • Compare those tubby lard-buckets to the wealthy of the medieval era, or Tongans and Samoans of the old hierarchical system. That was considered a sign of high wealth. People in the 18th century also wore shitty (literally), torn, infested rags, working class people wore shoes made of cloth, and might've had two outfits. People back then read those books because they were relevant and cutting-edge. They are still read because they helped to formulate and create a basis for what today is relevant and cutting edge. Ancient Greece and Rome were great, you could own slaves, own women, and the enemies of your people could be raped, pillaged, and sold into slavery. You might be the worst liberal ever, but if you like all the things I've described, move to Sub-Saharan Africa, all your dreams await you there.
