I struggle starting and finishing tasks/chores, is that normal?

Most recently my parents asked me nicely to clean up the bathroom cause it's getting messy. Half the mess is mine but I agree that I should clean it up. The thing is just starting the task is overwhelming and the thought of doing it is tiring and exhausting. I will get to it when I can find the motivation soon. Days later I haven't touched it, even though I know I need to clean it up and I even want to? Maybe I'm just a spoiled lazy person after all. This goes the same with other chores like washing the dishes. If I do start on it I only get half way until I can't do it anymore. I think it's more of a mental thing tbh. In any case is this normal?

    • I had adhd as a kid but I grew out of it. I'm not using something I once had as a kid as an excuse.

  • I have this too, you aren’t lazy, a lazy person would just choose not to do it and to do something else instead and not worry about it. Look up executive dysfunction, it’s like trouble initiating and completing tasks even if they’re things you enjoy and it’s stressing you out but you just physically can’t make your body start. It also affects organizational skills, memory, decision making, and time perception. It feels like forgetting the steps and not knowing where and how to start, at least for me. Very common in autistics and people with ADHD or depression (all of which I have).

    • Funny enough I am on antidepressants for depression and anxiety, but I still think there is an element of laziness to it. Organization and planning is something I'm horrible at, which is important for keeping rooms clean.
