What I find amusing is the idea that, if she has noticed they've disappeared, she might be accusing her brother of taking them. Another reason not to confess to him.
Don't wash them, take them with you the next time you visit your friend, and return them to her room, putting them in a place where they might plausibly have been overlooked (among the dust-bunnies under her bed, for example).
