I still love my first love

I was in 8th grade, and he was in 9th when we first met. He was my best friend's older brother and we met backstage at a play. Right away, I fell for his suave handshake and twinkly eyes, as he fell for my pigtails and costume. It was young love, and we started talking about everything, dreams, astronomy, science vs religion, love, our future. It's so funny now when I look back because we thought we knew we would always be together. We broke up over common young people scares, such as his desire to join the military even though he's the valid dictorian and should go to an ivy college. Now, he's finishing senior year and his girlfriend is two years older than him. I moved away after my freshman year so we didnt see each other much. I had a dream about him a week ago, so I messaged him and we've been reminiscing old memories of us. And everytime we see each other, he gives me that jaw-dropped look, like when I showed up to his homecoming a few months ago. I don't think my feeling are as strong and I won't ruin things for his new girl, but I think in some sort, I'll always hold a special love for him. Robby, thanks for teaching me how to love better.

  • Normal.
I never realised it, but you're right: a suave handshake is a big bonus. (though I don't shake hands much with my boyfriend)
