I spited someone on ebay

Two days ago I saw some vintage crayons that I wanted on ebay. There was 1 bid which was the starting bid at $20. I bid $30 and it said I was automatically outbid. I bid up to $50 and then stopped, because i didn't want to pay more than that. I really thought I would get ahead there, but their threshold was much higher. I thought, since I couldn't get the crayons because of this idiot, that I should needlessly raise the price for them by continuing to bid until their threshold. I bid up to $105, and then stopped so I would not have to pay all that money. I wish I knew the threshold so i could have made them pay more. I don't know if they were really willing to pay that or if they set up a high threshold just in case, expecting to only counter small bids. The item ended a few hours later, and now they are stuck with it. I wouldn't be surprised if somehow they get out of it and the item is relisted. I really hope I screwed them over. Have you ever done this?

I honestly have no idea why someone would set their highest bid for an amount they wouldn't be willing to pay for. They must have wanted those crayons bad.

I do a lot of eBay shopping, and being outbid is just a part of it. It's an auction site.

The thing I don't care for is reserves. Why not just list the item for what you're willing to take for it in the first place? I've been willing to pay more for something that said "reserve not met", but since there was no "buy it now" option and no other bidders jumped on, even when I tried to increase my bid, my bid just stayed the same, since it would take someone else bidding in order to increase it.

I think the only times I've ever been truly upset by anything on eBay was when I had to file a claim a couple of times because sellers refused to ship my items and kept making excuses or flat out ignoring me. I caught one of them in a blatant lie, which really pissed me off, but thankfully the claims lit a fire under both sellers' asses and they finally shipped my items.

That's the most gangster shit I've heard on here.

What's the point of buying vintage crayons?

Wasn't there a buy now price? I imagine the seller was out bidding you just to get you to pay more. When you stopped after their last bid, they just pull the item as if it sold and will simply re-list it later.

Seems like a waste of time.
