I smoked in a little forest. can it set on fire? (ashes only)

I smoked today in a little forest. It is a reasonably damp day, although there is some brush there. I saved the butt and through it away later, safely, but I'm worried that the dropped ashes could set a fire there. What is the probability and for how long could it smoulder? At what stage should I relax knowing 100% there will be no fire?

On a super dry day embers and hot ash can start fires. A little cigarette ash on a damp day won't hurt anything

  • Never really head of just ashes catching anything on fire, I ash on my bare stomach all the time if I'm laying down and it never burns or anything. You could've stomped on them to be extra cautious but I highly doubt anything will happen. Should be fine, and kudos on not flicking the butt into the woods! Us environmental junkies thank you
