I'd say it's normal. Sometimes just needing a place to sleep takes precedence over where it is or who it's with, just as long as there isn't any awkward sexual tension involved.
Though if you were feeling uncomfortable or awkward about it, I'd talk to your roommate about saving money for her own bed. It wouldn't hurt, and if it's as innocuous as you're describing, chances are she won't get offended.
She is saving for her own but she doesn't make a lot of money and I'm not really uncomfortable with it, I mean, in a kind of childish way, it IS nice to have someone there, I guess in case the monsters in the closet decide to start a revolution or something. I just don't think it's that normal and wanted to get a second... or third... or twentieth opinion on the matter
