Bit of a selection there depending on what you like.
Xbox to play anything online you have to pay, and pay again, and oh yea pay. PlayStation you can play so many games in the all for themself mode and it's a matter of logging into PlayStation network. I liked the Crisis games from a few years back. I don't know if they are on xbox.
Borderlands, any fallout game excluding 76 and 4. Battlefield if you want 64v64 team battled woth tanks and what not. World of tanks is a good f2p that's all about tank vs tank combat. Cod if your fag. Kingdom come deliverance if you want a realistic medieval game. Mount and blade warband if you want a semi realistic medieval game were you stsrt as well whoever you want who has next to nothing to buying king of the world controlling armies and the like if you desire. Very role play friendly. Sign up for gold, you'll het 2 free games every month, join there club they have tons of games you can play whenever you like for like 10 a month plus first month there's usually a deal for it to be 1$
Gta online, any fallout, most assassin's creeds, forza games, red dead redemption, the witcher... do a bit of reading and chose the games you want.
Personally I prefer pc gaming and I leave my 4k tv for movies, but whatever.
I like having a whole keyboard of buttons for various game controls, without doing comvos, free aim with the mouse and mod support.
