I used to really hate the sound of a taped play back of my voice. I actually had the opposite issue with my voice. I had a big, deep voice that sounded like a man to me when I was a kid. I remember singing in a Christmas choir in elementary school, and having a deeper voice than most of the boys. It probably wasn't as bad as I thought, though. I'm not a baritone, or anything, I'm just an alto.
Anyway, when I was in college I thought I needed to change my voice, but as it turned out it was fine just the way it was.
I think it would really help you to record, and listen to your voice. I also think you should practice reading out loud. Are you shy? I'm no expert, but I think if a person is shy it can be harder to speak up for a lot of people. Despite my deeper voice if I'm feeling shy a hello from me can sound like a little hi.
