  • It depends on your definition of 'old'.

    Most really old cars were anything but reliable. They would keep going with regular maintenance, repairs and replacement of various parts, but they weren't designed and built with reliability and long-life in mind.

    And cars from the seventies and earlier were deadly in crashes. Have a look at this video of a crash-test contest between a 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air and a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu:

    Really old cars may look cool and they're definitely massive, heavy lumps of metal, but only an idiot would want to be in one when it hit something.
