I think most people in the world are overly worried about germs. It's not exactly their fault - we're conditioned to be frightened of dirt and germs and nature, by advertisements and biology classes - but that doesn't make germphobia a rational response. Sure, maybe unwashed towels do carry germs but let's get real; if it hasn't killed you and no-one ever tells you you smell (people aren't that polite. If you consistently smell, someone is going to tell you.), you've got nothing to worry about.
