Because the wet towel would develop mold. Thats what happens when something is damp for a while. After 3 days it should start smelling. Most people will not get sick from a slight bit of nontoxic mold. I do notice my towels smell when I don't change them often.
I only change once a month

Why mold? Everything is clean. My towel has no mold. And if I did, wouldn't I be sick?
