I can see where you are coming from. I get a whirlwind negative emotions sometimes that make me hate myself and want to punish myself. I have never hit myself though, blunt force is not as harsh as sharp pain in my opinion. Either way, I don't think self harm is a good thing for either of us. I know this is an old post so my words are probably falling on deaf ears.
I think you need to distract yourself with something else until your normal mindset returns. Conflict causes an upset, which makes the self harmer in you overthrow logic. Your logic has to be stronger than that and resist usurpation; you do not deserve to be punished. Maybe talking to someone you trust would be a good idea.
I often hurt myself until I get bruises.
