I do the same thing. I don't have insomnia but I typically force myself awake on purpose as long as I can bear it; usually far past the point of feeling tired. Even if I don't have any reason to be up, I find something. I disregard whether I will feel bad trying to do something the next day. My sleep pattern is highly irregular due to this and I know it's probably not good for my health, but tbh I don't really care.
My reasoning is this: sleep seems like a HUGE waste of time. I also dislike (not necessarily afraid) of the concept of dreaming (don't really have a problem with nightmares or anything, it's just a personal preference thing I guess?).
