I'm starting to find video games boring

I'm finding video games kind of boring these days. Years ago I used to be able to jump into a game and play all evening. There were so many great games around but now, not so much. I can still enjoy some games but the thought of playing feels like a chore. I don't know whether new games just suck or I'm growing out of them.
I want to have actual conversations but everybody just wants to mindlessly game.

I'm assuming you're a man, or at the very least a manchild. That sensation of dread you have at the back of your head is telling you something: you're wasting your time. You could be learning guitar, learning a new language, reading books, whatever. You could be becoming more competent.

Games have changed but so have you. You're older and have a better understanding about how limited your free time is. There's something deep in your core that's frustrated. The only way to satisfy it is to become a man greater than you are.

    • Exactly. So much time that could be better spent. Gaming is a hobby with no tangible results. If I woodwork or garden or take photos I have a picture frame, a flower bed or a great shot to frame. If nothing else I'm working my body and mind. Same thing with real physical sports.

I’ve noticed alot of games are turning to how you have to hop online every day to continue with the progress you’ve made in order to gain all the rewards. There seems to be less games that are about adventuring and reaching an objective and rather the same old repetitive bs with constant updates from the developers to keep the gamers slightly excited each time. In a way alot of this online gaming has very much improved but also hurt the gaming community. Some games can also be incredibly strict with little room for different outcomes depending on your actions because of all the extremely specific quests that you can’t avoid.

This is why I hate Witcher and Assassin's Creed.

  • Best thing I ever did was give up gaming. What a waste of time.

This happened to me, I wish I could tap into the joy games brought me in my youth, but nearly all of them, even the ones I liked as a kid feel like homework now a days, at least most of the time. So I don’t game and I do other things now.

  • I go through episodes of playing. Like I’ll find a game I like then get hooked to the point of playing it when I have down time but then get sick of it or to busy and go back to not using anything. I recently got really into Forza Horizon 4 but at first didn’t care much for it. And before me liking this I haven’t felt this way for maybe a little over a year. I used to play a lot more and would really enjoy it. I for a while got super into retro gaming and have quite a collection going on but haven’t added to it in a while. I still sometimes miss games and will wip the consoles back out but don’t always feel the way I used to about them. I really don’t play that much anymore becides at the moment and times I play BO2 zombies with some friends. But compaired to how I was in the past it’s a big change. I think I’ve just grown out of it stopped caring as much nor had the time to sit down and play.

Happened to me as well. I think the change came in me when I started to enjoy taking responsibility of my life and getting shit done rather than avoiding it

you are probably playing only one type, someone who plays 1st person shooters everyday would eventually start finding them boring, try 2d platformers
