I'm special!

Does anyone else think that there's no way to be unique. I would really like to think that I'm special and then I realize that that's impossible. I try to think about how I know that I'm not special and in thinking that I'm special but yet again I realize that many other people think that as well and it just goes on and on. There's no way to stray away from the rest of humanity. Huh...There's nothing wrong with being like everyone else and I'm not depressed about it or anything. I just want some insight on this. I don't know what I'm talking about.

We may share the same colour blood, but no human being is ever the same as another, not even twins (my 2 best friends are twins and are both totally different). Even if you look the same as another person, there might be a certain part of you that makes you who you are. Whether there's one thing you can do better than anyone you know, even that makes a person unique.

Well said.. We are all human organisms.
    Do dogs differ?

Maybe we should just work at being special to somebody, you know? Rather than special to everyone. Like, to your friends and family. That seems far more meaningful...

  • We live in a number of worlds simultaneously - the material world, the world of other people and the world of the self - all at the same time. Of course we share much as a species, social and cultural - but how unique each person is in the world of the self and how we project ourselves into these other worlds.

Don't get caught up in simplistic over generalizations that demean and eclipse your own unique and oh so very special place in time & space!

I know what you mean. I have the same internal dialogue with myself, but in my case I think stems from my mild inferiority complex. Because I feel lower than everyone else, I end up trying to justify these feelings by trying to convince myself I'm better than these people, I'm special. Funny thing is I get really pissed off when I see other people putting on an air trying to be special or unique, but then when I realise I'm the exactly the same, if not worse, I feel even worse about myself.
I just feel that with 6 billion people in this world, no one is ever going to be really unique or special, and if someone truly is special (in one way or another), they are not a 'diamond in the rough' as such, more like a diamond amongst a bunch of cubic zirconia. Who's gonna actually recognise someone as special in a world full of people trying to prove themselves as different? Like with the common question 'what are three words that describe you?', nothing you say is actually going to set you apart, but we still try to exaggerate attributes that we think will make us more interesting.
I guess wanting to feel special appeals to all of us, some of us just want to recognised without actually having to work to improve ourselves.
I find that instead of trying stress about our own humanity, it's much more eye-opening to put it all into perspective. In this immensely huge universe, we are but a microscopic fragment, but we overinflate our own ego's and self-importance as if it's larger than life itself. We tend to filter out the most important things through the social framework built up over hundreds of years, the thing which we call our own humanity. In the end, does being special REALLY matter?
Sorry I didn't give you any answers, just a jumble of my own ideas. long story short, don't stress about being special. we only have one life, and that should be spent doing what makes us, not someone else, happy. Oh and if you haven't already watch 'pale blue dot' by carl sagan on youtube.
    Peace.

    you need to relax!
    I was like you once.
If you do what you like to do, dress the way you like to dress and be who you want to be you can't go wrong.
    It's that simple.
It took me untill 22 yrs of age to figure that out.

If you want to be special, just be really weird like i was, u'll probably get bored of that and find some perverse way or being even more 'special'.

Your really special in this world if you help people arround you!

Because alot of people on the world that don't do it. For example a exident happend what do people do, they watch like it's some kind of movie. So my advice, help people arround you with small things. But dont let them abuse you.

Hey man, i agree with what you mean, i mean, you think (for example) on a game, oh wow! thats a great name! im gonna snag it! after youv been thinking about it all day... then you go home, type it in "sorry that name is taken".

A pet peve of mine is people trying to be different, no i dont hate everyone, lol, just the people, (you kno who they are) who think they'r super cool and original just because they say or do something, or wear a certain type of clothing, like the abstract ones, except theres millions of them out there.. and if you look up the "original" things people say half the time u can find they'r quoting off a show, site, or something of another author other than their own brain.

hotchickie is right. There is no one else out these who matches your genetic makeup or fingerprint. But, the thoughts, opinions, and reactions that you may share with others is because you all live on planet Earth and watch the same crap, listen to the same crap, and so on. You are special and unique and there is no one else out there quite like you.
