My wife's puppy used to be afraid of rubber bands. She was always very curious about whatever I was doing. One day I was absentmindedly playing with a rubber band while watching TV and the dog was right in my face, so I put my hands out in front of me, pulled the rubber band back a little bit and let go. It snapped her on the nose, and we all know what that might feel like.
I know people are gonna be blasting me for that and telling me what an asshole I am, and that somebody should do that to me, etc. Well, it is what it is. I screwed up. I shouldn't have done it and I never did it again.
The funny thing is that ever afterward if I picked up anything and held it out in front of me pointing it at the dog she would start barking and backing away from me, even if I had nothing in my hands and just held them out in that position she would freak out.
Maybe you had some traumatic experience that you can't even remember from your early childhood that has had a lasting effect on you!
