I have the same urges mate, I love female feet. I love to sniff really well worn closed toe flats or heels, my mate's wife wears a pair of smelly black flats that i stuck my nose in last night. Her feet/shoes smell great and at the moment she's my foot desire, but like you i started by sniffing by best mate's mum shoes and taking them to the bathroom when no one around.
