I'm scared of bows and arrows

I'm scared of them, since a few months ago when playing archery I'm just scared if I hurt someone or if the arrow hits me , my fear is severe to the point where I have to hug my friend ( I know I'm a grown man but I do it anyways. ), even when I want to play it I feel very scared to not play it.

Is it normal?

I would argue a bow and arrow is one of the safest weapons ever. The bow itself is just a flimsy piece of wood. The arrow being a pointy stick at best. The arrow has to be drawn into a bow and anything less than a 45 pound bow isnt going to do shit to the human body.

The firearm equivalent is an unloaded musket. Where it takes a while for the weapon to actually become dangerous.

I hurt a person just throwing a pen at them.

Nothing is safe in capable hands, and an arrow will most certainly do shit.

Then shouldnt the fear come from the pointy arrow or the hands that wield them?

Also yeah throw anything hard and it hurts but theres a stark difference from getting a bruise vs getting an arrow shot through a lung.

If a person can draw a bow, then it’s all the same damage really. I wouldn’t stand in the way of the thing thinking “that ain’t gonna do anything cause it’s not a 45 pound bow” lolol.

Oh yeah that's just dumb to stand directly in front of a drawn bow. It's not a completely safe weapon but nothing is. A car would do WAY, WAY, more damage than a bow can do.

              True.

But then, you could also get hit by a car and live. While just getting nicked by a pissy arrow could end in bleeding out.

  • I watched something about the effect of call of duty on kids. They gave an 11 year old I think a rifle and had him shoot it in like a woodsy. Now on cod, he was shooting left and right, but irl shooting, he was crying with a full stream of tears, saying things like he'll never play cod again

Take from that what you will, but if you're gonna do something, you should do it with the confidence that it's what you should do. You should understand you're shooting a target or a deer. You're either practicing the sport of accuracy or acquiring food/money. If you're not enjoying it, then maybe you should reassess your situation so you know what you should do; give it up or gain the resolve

They were probably crying from the noise. Didnt see the video but a gun is a hell of a lot louder than a cod game.

  • I'd say it's normal to be a bit anxious holding something that can kill another human being like a bow but feeling the need to hug someone over it as an adult regardless of your sex seems a bit like an overreaction.

    Irrelevant:
I really to envy 'Muricans. I had a go of a Hunter's crossbow and just holding something like that, taking aim, and firing it at a target was such an amazing feeling, especially when you turn out to be a good shot. Bought my first bottom-end crossbow after that and hopefully will be out giving it a go in the near future.

Not exactly super common but as we're talking about an actual weapon I'm not sure if we can classify this as a phobia, which is usually classified as an "irrational" fear.

Anything is a weapon. Weapon wise the bow and arrow has to be one of the safest weapons. The safety feature is how much weight the string takes to pull back, the training it takes to shoot even moderately accurately and that an archery related deaths are rare now adays.

I'm more of a fan of the far cry varieties of bows. I'm tits with a bow in far cry, where I use it in place of a sniper.
