I used to be like you, and what I can say really helped me is a few things.
Know that when you’re dying your body actually releases a chemical that relaxes you and a sense of acceptance floods through you as you’re letting go. This was huge for me cos I realised I wasn’t afraid of death but afraid of feeling afraid as I was dying.
It also helped me to use death to actually accentuate the value of life, the impermenancy of things is actually beautiful, it makes them precious, it really helps you to embrace carpe diem, making the most of every moment.
The third and last thing I would say is think of something romantic about death that will bring you peace, for me it’s my wish for my ashes to be scattered in the ocean - and the romantic part - (and this is key) “to ride the eternal wave”
If spirituality helps you transcend fear by all means go for that too. Just make sure your fear of death is not crippling your will to live.
I'm really really scared of death?
