As a bisexual person i can agree with you on this as i've seen it many times with all sorts of movements i.e. the modern day feminist movement, animal rights, i saw one in my town square claiming England is a dictatorship, etc.
Like you said, not ALL LGBT activists are complete nut-jobs, but some are, to the point where there's just too many. I remember getting bashed by an LGBT protest group because i asked them what exactly they were protesting about (same sex mariage was already legalised here in England so i was curious as to whether there were other legal rights we don't have, etc.).
Also, like you said, i don't get offended when asked about my sexuality, i don't feel like i should be.
But anyway, all i'll say is try stay away from those protests of they bother you this much.
