I'm not American yet I know all the US State capitals. Is this Normal

  • It was probably because of my strange depression resulting from learning that US state capitals are not usually their largest cities.

    • That is interesting.

      When I was young, I assumed the biggest city was always the capital of a state/province/country until I learnt that the capital of my country wasn't the biggest city.

      Intrigued, I did some research and found out that the biggest city was the original capital but moved to the centre of the country when there was threats from the southern provinces demanding succession.

      From my understanding the capital of Canada was moved to Ottawa due to the original capital being quite close to the US border. I think this occurred after the War of 1812.

    • Yeah it is odd like that. My state's largest city happens to be the capital though. The stuck a lot of the capitals near the middle of the states. When you have oceans, lakes and other geographic features around, those places are bound to become more populated.
