Its a sign of the times. Most of the people here saying its not normal are unable to fully enter the digital age.
I'm married. Met my wife in person before ever getting serious. Now I'm your everyday average overweight miserable father of three that wants to kill himself because he's married, has three kids, and is jailed for life inside my own family.
All joking aside, this is an increasingly digitized age where texting, chatting, skyping, etc etc are the preferred method of cantact. Its easy to see, if you're open minded, how this trend is here to stay. Record numbers of people are getting married through dating sites and even mmos for christs sake. I would even go so far as to say not only is this normal, but due to the communications and ever changing socially interactive nature of the internet, this will become a far more pronounced and landmark method of relationship building.
