I would go with what you said as "normal" for a straight male....
I'm a lesbian, and if a straight chick said she thought lesbians were creepy, I would be hurt, yes, but I expect that. I KNOW straight girls are going to be uncomfortable. I don't expect them to say things like "Being surrounded by lesbians make me so comfortable!!". Now, if she said something like, "Ewww lesbians are fucking sickos!!" you would be able to tell that she had said it to shame and cause hurt to lesbians, and THAT would be homophobia, and that would be WRONG.
Straights that aren't comfortable around homosexuals..... is usually because they never actually got to know what gays are like. They start forming ideas about us that aren't true. Like straights, gay men don't fall for every guy they see, and for lesbians not every girl . It doesn't work like that. If you see a gay guy around, just be chill, seriously. As long as you don't wish any ill-intent towards them, I think you are okay.
