I find that when I decide to cast off something about myself that I hate, the hate is still there in one way or another. I've realized that the truth, the constant among all the change, is the self-hatred. It is the only thing I can't change, and the one thing that I'm trying to. Be sure it's the name, and not something else about yourself, that you hate. Or that it's not what hearing your name being called means to you. Maybe it's not your name that you're not attached to, but your own sense of identity. And changing your name won't fix any of that.
