I'm against testing fetus for down syndrome

You're telling people with down syndrome they're bad and you would eliminate them if you could.

Just bc you test for it doesn't mean you're gonna abort the baby. It's just recommended if it's in your family history.

What I don't get is why people don't use google every once in a while before posting on IIN.

Down Syndrome isn't genetic in the sense that it runs in families and that's from googling because I wasn't sure myself.

It does occur more often with older mothers.

People don't believe that older women have older eggs, but they do!

But I think regardless, they still test against genetics.

Nobody with a grain of compassion or intelligence believes that people with Down's Syndrome are evil or that they should die.

Everyone with any sense knows that a person with the condition is very likely to need a great deal of care for their entire life, and they will almost certainly never become independent adults. Parents with any sense give a lot of thought to the implications of this when they're told that the amniocentesis shows the fetus has Down's. One important factor is that, since Down's Syndrome is much more common with older parents, it's very likely they will be required to look after their child when they become elderly and might actually require assistance themselves. There's also a good chance they will die before their child, and someone else will have to look after them.

My wife was over 40 when she became pregnant with our daughter, and I'm a decade older than her. The pregnancy was unplanned and we knew a child was going to cause major upheavals in our life, but we never considered termination. However, if the amniocentesis had shown she had Down's, we would have terminated. We would have felt very shitty about it, but we talked about it and agreed that we'd do this since we knew it was highly likely the child would outlive us, and we couldn't bear the thought that a child of ours would eventually be forced to enter some sort of care situation with all the issues there always are with those.

We dodged the bullet with our daughter and she's perfectly fine in every way, but one of the reasons we decided not to have another child is that the prospect of saddling her with a lifetime of care and concern for a younger disabled sibling was just too awful to consider.

Looking at the world in black and white terms is easy, but it's a sign of an irrational, uninformed, immature fanatic. The real world is nothing but shades of grey.

So you're one of those people who believes that a 17 week fetus is a fully-fledged person?

        I don't.

People don't test so they can get an abortion (I hope because then they're shit people and will be shit parents) but to know what they're dealing with i'm sure. Obviously a child with downs syndrome will be more challenging to raise and you might want to prepare for that and do some research on downs syndrome etc.

As someone with two brothers with Down Syndrome, I tell you, it is good to know the child has Down Syndrome before birth so that the parents and doctors can be prepared. Only pieces of crap abort theit children, even if they have Down Syndrome.

Early abortion for any reason is acceptable.

There should be no time limit on abortion, before or after birth. Children have no souls.

After conception, the fetus is already a developing human being with a soul who will possibly grow up to do something great.

i believe we should stay away from any, any thing at all that resembles eugenics. That is a very dangerous field for every generation

    Your question was unclear.
1 IIn to have the test?
    or
2 IIn to be against the test?
Since Im not the one paying the bills, its none of my business.

Um well firstly, I am annoyed at people being literally offended by everything and secondly, if u could help ur future child get into it’s real potential and being healthy, wouldn’t u wanna do that
I mean of course u can be very happy but it also brings a lot of problems for the surrounding
