I don't want to have kids because they will share my genes. It's very likely they'll have ADHD and mental health issues. I feel it's best to save them all the trouble by simply not having kids. Is it normal to think like this?
Yeah, that's normal. Unfortunately though, people are selfish and would rather put their own desire to have biological children above that of the welfare of the child, so it's not all that common to think like this.
PS. If you still want kids, then you can still adopt.
I'd really have to know more about your mental health issues before I'd call that normal, and I'm not sure why everyone's calling it wise. ADHD isn't bad enough to avoid having kids over. We don't even know the severity of the condition, why did this have a 100% before I voted?
No, I'm saying they shouldn't force themselves into not having kids. He's doing it out of fear of his genes, and I'm not sure if that's healthy (at least, not without more information on his condition). It pares down his potential partners to only the ones that won't want kids, and it could encourage him to get a vasectomy.
I'm not saying any of that is wrong, but it could lead to harm or missed opportunities, so when the reason is "my kid might have ADHD", I have to do a double take.
